What’s Geeky in April 2023?

Welcome to spring!

It’s finally getting warm again, the flowers are in bloom… and the pollen is super up, so we all might as well stay inside and enjoy some of these really great geeky things that are coming out, right?

And do we have some great stuff coming or what? From a new season of Demon Slayer to the long-awaited return of Cal Kestis and new books by heavy hitters Brandon Sanderson and Peter S. Beagle, there’s a lot to get excited about.

Movies/TV Shows

April 5th

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Super Mario Bros. if finally a movie for all to enjoy!

As the evil Bowser invades the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario, Donkey Kong, and Princess Peach will have to join forces to save Luigi and the rest of the kingdom from an army of angry turtles and mushrooms. Get ready for some mushroom power-ups and a Mad Max-style race along Rainbow Road across the silver screen.

April 7th

Colonials

Life is beyond Earth in this new science fiction, Colonials.

A colonial human from Mars crash lands on the now ravaged earth after being fired on by a Moon-based civilization known as the Exiles. Having lost his memory, a colonial named Silas must join forces with the Resistance to save the last remains of humanity on earth from extinction. Extinction at the hands of a brutal enemy who seems to know Silas very well.

Chupa

An enchanting fantasy turned into a survival of a young Chupacabra.

In this Netflix movie, Alex, a teenager visiting his family in Mexico, befriends a young chupacabra hiding in his grandpa’s shed. Introducing Chupa, as they name him, to the family is easy and everyone loves him. But when bad men start looking for the mythical creature, it will be up to Alex and his cousins to save their new friend.

April 9th

Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc

The gang returns to fight more demons in the newest Demon Slayer movie.

The Kasugai Crows are back with a new mission for Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke. From the dark streets and fancy kimonos of the Entertainment District, the group will have to face their most daunting challenge yet… explaining to a whole village of swordsmiths why Tanjiro broke his special sword—Again!

But as Tanjiro is at his most vulnerable, two upper-rank demons close in for the attack. Even with the help of new friends, how will a disarmed Tanjiro stop a foe who can split himself into multiple bodies?

April 14th

Renfield

After centuries of tending to the needs of Count Dracula, daytime servant Renfield has had enough. Sure, the whole eating bugs to gain super speed and strength has its benefits, like impressing his new girlfriend, but the degrading work of capturing prey and tending to Dracula’s every need is getting old. But how does one quit the Prince of Darkness?

The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die

The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die, a continuation of the series.

This Netflix movie will finish up the story of Uhtred of Bebbanburg, the Saxon raised by Vikings who now helps his countrymen fight back against the invaders.

Athelstan, Uhtred’s ward and friend, now sits uneasily on the throne of Wessex. But as the Vikings gather for a final invasion, Uhtred will have to take up his sword once more or see everything that he has fought so hard for burn to the ground.

Suzume

Suzume must travel to different locations through portals in this new anime film.

After a chance meeting with a strange young man (who is later turned into a chair), 17-year-old Suzume must travel all over Japan as she tries to stop strange doors from opening and bringing destruction across her country.

April 19th

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always

The Power Rangers must battle Rita Repulsa again in this new series.

Having found a new body, Rita Repulsa is back and is out for revenge against the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in this Netflix series. And now she’s traveling back in time to kill the team before Zordon makes them Rangers. But as they say, “Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger.” It’s morphin’ time.

April 21st

War of the Worlds: The Attack

War of The Worlds returns with three young friends at the center of the story this time.

Three young friends witness a meteor fall to earth only to quickly realize that they are at the center of a deadly Martian invasion. Faced with an overwhelming technological advantage, the nations of the earth crumble under the laser fire of the alien machines.

Evil Dead Rise

Two sisters reunite but in a terrible world of zombies.

Two estranged sisters reunite, but their happy family reunion quickly turns bloody as one of them is infected by a flesh-possessing demon. The horror in the woods has finally come home. Grab your chainsaws for this film, only in theaters.

The Tank

A horror movie about an ancient monster being awakened.

After inheriting a coastal property from his mother that he never knew about, Ben and his family are ecstatic. But when they fill up the old water tank in the backyard, they accidentally unleash an ancient monster that tormented Ben’s ancestors—and is now coming for them.

April 27th

Sweet Tooth, season 2

Return to the saddest and most adorable apocalypse ever in Sweet Tooth season two.

Journey back out into the apocalypse in the return of the Emmy-winning Netflix series as Gus, the sweet hybrid boy, finds himself at the mercy of the First Men and the reluctant experiments of Dr. Singh. But as Aimee Eden and Tommy Jesper try to get their kids back, Gus has finally come to a conclusion: he is done running away.

April 28th

Peter Pan & Wendy

Tinker Bell from the new Disney + movie, Peter Pan and The Wendy.

Peter Pan, the leader of the Lost Boys, has lost his shadow and it is only in the home of Wendy Darling and her two brothers that he finds it again. So begins a wonderful adventure full of pirates, princesses, and one of the most famous fairies of all time. You can watch this movie on Disney+ or you can always think of a happy thought, join hands, and then it’s the second star to the right and straight on til morning.

Polite Society

A martial art movie where two friends work hard to end a wedding.

A martial artist in training, Ria Khan, is worried about her sister’s upcoming marriage. Not only is the groom smarmy, but his mother may be actually and legitimately evil. So, with the help of her friends, Ria plans to sabotage the wedding, beat up the tough-as-nails mother-in-law, and save her sister.
