The School for Good and Evil movie just came out and has been trending on Netflix ever since. If you haven’t seen it, stop now, and give it a watch. It’s a little over two hours long and has beautiful dresses and wicked cool witchy looks as well. Honestly, go watch it for Earl Cave’s performance as Hort alone.

As someone who has been anticipating this movie since I read the six-book series years ago, I fancy myself a pretty big fan of the still-growing universe. The movie has had mixed reviews. Some I agree with and some I don’t, but I’m here to support all the wonderful cast and designers as well as the author, Soman Chainani himself.
In this world, there are a lot of tropes and rules that students from each school follow. For example, students from the school of evil usually value being “ugly” because the less time they spend on their looks, the more time spent scheming. Good students value appearance to attract their true love. These are taught at the school but not hard rules that each school follows, but there are some absolutes that both follow.
In this universe, all the students come into the school knowing these rules, but not our main characters Agatha and Sophie. They come from a small village that is essentially in a snow globe. No one leaves, and no one enters, except for the force that takes them to the school. As you can imagine this whole world is a bit of a surprise to them, and they don’t conform to it.
So that is all I’m going to say about the storyline in hopes that you will go watch the movie and read the books!
