Halloween is an exciting time, especially for cosplayers who get to bring out their spookiest cosplays and celebrate with the normies for once. It is our time to shine and we should indeed do just that! Halloween has always been a special time for me because it was my first time crafting my own costumes, and I am sure that is true for a lot of us. So let’s get the crafting scissors, glue, and pumpkins out and make great costumes.
I had the pleasure of sharing so many talented cosplayers and photographers in this article. They are all credited below their images so you know exactly where to find them.
Tharja from Fire Emblem
Obviously, I was going to suggest this one. If you have read any of my previous posts you know I love Fire Emblem and Tharja is the natural choice for a Halloween cosplay. I even made my own for Anime Weekend Atlanta last year and she was so spooky fun to wear! If you want a guide on how to make your own, here’s mine!
Tharja is not the only fire emblem character to make for great Halloween cosplays, in fact, any of the dark mages (Nyx, Odin, Henry) make for excellent scare season costumes. Tharja is a fan favorite, making it easy to collect resources on how to make the cosplay, or you can simply order one. Plus we all know she likes to hold skulls so you can pose with your own decorations.
Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service
October is the time to celebrate witches, even the adorable ones. So many people hold a special place in their hearts for Kiki’s Delivery Service, and rightfully so! Kiki is a great option if you’re on a budget, or just want something cute and innocent to wear. You can even add a little Jiji and broom to pull the look together.
Kiki’s outfit is so simple that you can easily order or thrift it so it makes for a great look for a tight schedule or tight budget. The other amazing thing about this cosplay is that it is so versatile. Anyone of any age can easily wear this cosplay. It is so simplistic in design but still iconic you can make so many different designs from it.
Edward Scissorhands
Edward Scissorhands is a 90s classic. If you are forever an alternative kid, this movie would have been a staple for you. The black leather and zippers are a Halloween-ready look and as a bonus, you can find the makeup you need anywhere this time of year.
This bodysuit will be nice and warm for the cooler months and it will be unmistakable who you are. There are also jaw-dropping alternative designs to this look such as the Kotobukiya figure that reimagines Edward as a woman. This is a great cosplay if you want people to respect your personal space, a very valuable commodity at conventions.
Harrowing / Trick-or-Treat Skins from League of Legends
League of Legends has their very own Halloween skin lines where they play on more campy and cute Halloween aesthetics. My favorite of these is the Bewitching skin line where they turn some of our favorite champions into kawaii witches. Oh, and there are a lot of them, 12 in the bewitching series alone.
Because there are so many options, you are bound to enjoy at least one of the designs. Because these skins are done in a more classic Halloween style the construction ranges in complexity. This is a great way for PC gamers to bring their Halloween spunk to the con scene.
Soul Eater Characters
Soul Eater was an anime/manga made for people who love the spooky season. It has kids who turn into weapons that kill witches and collect their souls. Now, what is edgier than that? The dark grungy style of the anime lends itself to the dark and wicked season. Seriously, there are just so many fun things you can do this time of year with this anime.
If you are looking for the most on-the-nose Halloween characters then Blaire the Witch, Medusa and Death the Kid will all be great picks. I personally love Tsubaki but I think that all of the characters really suit the season. Most of these cosplays are manufactured if you are not wanting to make your own. If you do want to craft your own the designs range from beginner-friendly to moderate in construction.
Raven from Teen Titans
Teen Titans was a great part of my childhood and probably yours too. Doesn’t matter who you are, we all had a crush on Raven. Raven is literally a human and demon, the perfect combination for Halloween. Her dark gothic style looks great on everyone and photographs great with any Halloween decoration you might like.
If you’re looking for a more mature version of this character you can check out alternative designs or the version of her that is in the comics. This cosplay is a great one because you can closet-cosplay it, or
hand-make the whole thing, but everyone will enjoy seeing you cosplay her.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
It’s time to talk about the family-friendly Halloween-Christmas movie that everyone knows. There are so many amazing cosplays that come out of this movie. You can literally pick any character and make an iconic cosplay of them. These cosplays will obviously look perfect in any Halloween setting.
There are so many beautiful alternative versions of these characters you can choose from too. This movie gives you a great opportunity to play with makeup and even prosthetics if you like. You had to know coming into this that there would be more than one Tim Burton movie included.
Death Note Characters
If you are an alternative kid then I know you’ve seen Death Note. It might have even been your first anime. With an anime that centers around a notebook that gives you the ability to murder people, there are bound to be a few goth characters.
The most popular character to cosplay in this anime is Misa, but there are plenty of options to choose from. In fact with a character like ‘L’, you just need a white shirt, jeans, and some eyeliner. Most of these characters are really easy to closet-cosplay and really suit an urban environment, making them some of the most accessible.
Morrigan from Darkstalkers
Darkstalkers is a franchise, known best for the videogame, that takes place in a gothic horror setting with creatures from folklore, like vampires. The game is actually called Vampires in Japan. As you can imagine, the design of some of these characters is jaw-dropping in the best way, with Morrigan being distractingly beautiful.
If you want a character with different colors Lilith and Felicia are both gorgeous characters as well. Most of these cosplays you can purchase or make yourself, and bring your sexy to Halloween. If you are wanting something spicy to wear this season, look no further.
Tokyo Ghoul Characters
If you are into white-haired anime characters, then I know you are familiar with possibly the most famous one, Kaneki. Tokyo Ghoul is a dark fantasy where ghouls, disguised as humans, begin to murder humans. A lot of the characters in this anime seem fairly simple in design until you begin looking at the ghouls.
This anime has been really popular for a long time, and with its recent resurgence, it’s the perfect time to make a cosplay from it. The ghouls are especially creepy and this is a great time to incorporate some blood into your cosplay and make it as creepy as possible.
Scooby-Doo Characters
Finally, the most classic of Halloween shows. Scooby-Doo. Everyone knows who this bunch is, from normies to the con community. Scooby-Doo and his gang are the original monster hunters and iconic parts of our childhoods. Undoubtedly, anyone who sees you will enjoy this cosplay and appreciate it.
You can cosplay any member of the gang and fit the Halloween aesthetic. These characters are great to cosplay because you can change the design, age the characters, or cross-play them and people will still know exactly who you are. If you wanna bring the classic cosplay for Halloween, then this is perfect for you.
Conclusion
So that’s it! Here are my top 11 Halloween cosplays for 2022. There are so many great costumes for October so I’m sure I missed plenty, but I think we can all agree that these are some pretty great ones. For all my cosplayers and cosplay fans remember to enjoy the season that was made for us!
